THANK YOU to all who have generously contributed so far.

22nd December 2011

I'm relieved to be able to tell you that our colleagues and friends at MuCAARD based in Nazareth, Cagayan de Oro, are safe from the initial flooding. Our thoughts are now with them as they deal with the terrible aftermath, both personally, and in offering aid and assistance to the many thousands left devastated.

Please use this link to the Manila Times website or this link to the BBC website to keep abreast of the developing situation.

The latest information is that 120,000 people are immediately affected, with no access to fresh water or sanitation. MuCAARD staff have a wealth of experience in providing front-line disaster relief, and are now liasing with national and international NGOs.

With this in mind we have decided to issue an urgent one-off appeal for emergency funds.

We will be pleased to accept electronic transfers or cheques/POs. If you'd like to make a donation, please CLICK HERE to download our Special Appeal Donation Advice.

The formation of MuCAARD-UK came about from the experience of several volunteers with VSO back in the 1970s. This has been celebrated in a commemorative coffeetable book about VSO's forty years of work in the Philippines.

One of our founding Trustees, Romy Tiongco was recently interviewed by Miriam O'Reilly for the BBC series "Heart and Soul".
The programme aired on the BBC World Service, but you can
to listen to it now.

Our sincere thanks to Upton Hall School who decided to support us as their chosen charity for 2010.

We would like you to discover a little about our established work in reforestation and some of the positive steps you could take to help us in combating climate change.

Through us you can support
  • small-scale SE Asian farmers.
  • the replanting of tropical forests.
  • the production of sustainable bio-fuel on derelict land.
  • sustainable timber production.
  • carbon sequestration.

Working mainly in poor rural communities in The Philippines, your support enables us to expand these activities, whilst at the same time improving the livelihood of local families.

We need your support to help generate funds for projects with great potential not only to fight climate change, but also to improve lives.

It costs us £1 to plant and care for 2 tropical forest trees. This regenerates forests and provides much needed jobs.

You can help in many simple ways:

  • add our web address www.mucaard-uk.org to the signature box of your email to help promote our work.
  • encourage friends, family or local businesses to offset their carbon usage through us.
  • Offset some of your own carbon usage by donating.
